All training courses for foreigners with B2 level

If you have already reached a B2 level in German, many doors are open to you in Germany - especially if you want to start an apprenticeship. B2 means that you can speak, understand and write independently - even in professional situations. In this article, you will find out which apprenticeships are possible with B2, which sectors offer particularly good opportunities and how you can further improve your language skills.

Which training courses are possible for foreigners with B2 level?

With German language skills at B2 level, you can basically start any dual training program in Germany - provided you also meet the technical requirements.

Skilled workers in the trades, technology, care, logistics and service sectors are particularly in demand. Popular training courses for people with B2 level are, for example:

  • Electrician
  • Plant mechanic for SHK (sanitary, heating, air conditioning)
  • Nursing specialist
  • Warehouse logistics specialist
  • Automotive mechatronics technician
  • Professional driver
  • Hotel specialist

Compared to applicants with only A2 or B1, you have better chances and often a wider choice with B2. If you are not yet sure what opportunities are available with other language levels, please also read our articles on training with B1 or training with A2.

Further requirements for training in Germany if you have B2 language skills

In addition to your language level, there are other points that you should fulfill to start an apprenticeship:

  • School-leaving certificate: A secondary school leaving certificate is usually sufficient.
  • Residence status & work permit: You need a valid residence permit with permission to train. You can find more information in the article "Work permit for foreigners".
  • Motivation & application: Your application should clearly show why you want to do the apprenticeship.

Tip: Many companies require proof of your language level. You can prove your German with the Goethe test, telc certificate or ÖSD test, for example. You can also get a good initial assessment by taking a free online self-test at sprachtest.de.

The best sectors for finding an apprenticeship

With a B2 level, you have a good chance of finding an apprenticeship in many system-relevant and skilled trades professions - especially in sectors with a shortage of skilled workers. These include, among others:

  • Electrical & HVAC professions: Electronics technician, plant mechanic or heating engineer - highly sought after, well paid, secure.
  • Nursing & medicine: Nursing professions are in demand, even internationally. Many employers support language acquisition.
  • Logistics & transportation: Warehouse logistics, shipping, forwarding - important for the German economy, even with less office communication.
  • Gastronomy & hotel industry: Ideal if you like working with people. Your personality also counts here.

Especially in the grey collar sector - i.e. professions with a technical focus - B2 is often sufficient to get off to a flying start.
